This release presents two splendid albums by the celebrated Cuban conga performer Machito (1912-1984), both of which include accompaniment by first-rate jazz stars. The LPs are “Kenya-Afro Cuban Jazz” (Roulette SR-52006 from 1957, tracks 1-12), on which Machito is joined by Cannonball Adderley – arrangements by Mario Bauza, and “With Flute to Boot (Roulette SR-52026 from 1958, tracks 13-24), featuring Herbie Mann (who also plays on “Kenya” and composed all of the tunes here). These sessions also boast such outstanding musicians as Johnny Griffin, Curtis Fuller, and Joe Newman. 2 LP`s on 1 CD. Total playing time 77 minutes
