Edwin Bonilla is back with his sophomore release and if you thought his previous CD was swinging, get ready to get blown away. My computer is already smoking.
Edwin handles all the percussion instruments, and co-production on this project, while Jesus "El Niño" Pérez, once again displays his talents in soneos, chorus, flute, tres and co-producer of this CD. This one is sure to be a bonafide hit in the clubs. (In case you missed it, pick up Jesus` solo CD, Soy Montuno.)
The title cut will immerse you in a wonderful solo by Edwin. "Cuenta bien" showcases Pérez`s vocal styling; and Carmela will have you limpiando hevillas for at least four minutes.
Every cut on this CD smokes but the more aggressive cuts are the ones that will make your mouth drop open. The percussion is so tight and all done by one man. He seems at ease soloing on timbales, bongos and congas.
Which brings us up to the last cut on the CD, "Recordando las descargas". The dead will be rising for this one. Trumpet solos, conga solos, great chorus, el sonero improvising to what sounds like what the Alegre All Stars did back in the 60s.
