De Cubaanse zangeres Aymee Nuviola woont al weer een poosje in Miami en daar nam ze met top producer Sergio George en een all-star orkest dit heel aardige Tribute To Celia Cruz album op.
Aymee Nuviola and Sergio George take the Celia Cruz songbook back to Havana for a series of historic sessions. El Regreso a La Habana was recorded at the very same studios on San Miguel street in Havana where Celia Cruz recorded with the Sonora Matancera in the 1950s. The Nuviola-George collaboration honors Celia’s classics while infusing a new Cuban sensibility to the songbook. The album’s credits read like a who’s who of today’s hottest Cuban players: From Jazz virtuosos Alexander Abreu Manresa on horns, Juan Manuel Ceruto on Saxophones and Angel Arce on percussion to Nuyorican legend Rubén Rodríguez on bass and New York- based Venezuelan percussion sensation Luisito Quintero and many more.
Aymee Nuviola first stepped into Havana’s fabled EGREM studios as a bright-eyed teenager – getting an early start as a professional singer with some of Cuba’s greatest bands of the time. When the prodigious Cuban singer, musician, composer and sonera returned to that very same spot decades later, she was completely overcome with emotion. Tears flowed as memories rushed back, and the magical spirit of the place took over. The power of that heartfelt return spilled over into the eleven tracks she would work on for the next few days. Backed by some of today’s greatest Cuban players and led by Latin super producer Sergio George, Nuviola made magic in crafting this concept album that takes Celia Cruz’s music back to Havana for the first time in half a century.
