A huge star in France, Colombia`s Yuri Buenaventura is a fabulous modern salsero who isn`t afraid to inject a political edge into his music. Taking advantage of his Gallic popularity by singing in both French and Spanish, he`s quite adaptable, as this collection shows, performing duets with Cuban rappers Los Orishas and also with French/Algerian rai singer Faudel, as well as covering an old Mano Negra song, "Mala Vida." That he can do such things and still keep a driving, rooted sound is a fine high-wire act, and one Buenaventura pulls off with aplomb. The label has cherry-picked the most upbeat and frantic of his music here, all 12 cuts guaranteed to get even a chair-bound listener sweating.
