José Álvaro Osorio Balvin (Medellín, 7 mei 1985) is een Colombiaanse reggaetonartiest en -zanger, bekend onder de artiestennaam J Balvin, is momenteel een van de hotste latin artiesten. Binnen Colombia is hij bekend van reclames voor motoren, waarbij hij dezelfde slogan gebruikt als in zijn liedteksten: Es el negocio socio ("het is de business, partner"). Twee jaar achtereen won J Balvin het kampioenschap hip-hop freestyle gehouden in Deja Vu, een bekende in Medellín.
José Balvin was al op jonge leeftijd bezig met muziek maken. Tijdens zijn middelbare schooltijd zat hij in verschillende rockbandjes. Tijdens een uitwisseling naar de Verenigde Staten leerde hij Engels en de hip-hopwereld kennen. Hij brak zijn studie internationale betrekkingen aan de EAFIT-universiteit van Medellín in het zevende semester af om zich volledig op de muziek te richten. Hij maakte deel uit van de Mdl Crew, tegenwoordig de Universidad de la Calle ("Universiteit van de Straat"), een groep artiesten uit Medellín die met name rap en reggaeton spelen. Hij werd begeleid door Fat Al, een Colombiaanse artiest die in Miami woonde en die hem zijn artiestennaam gaf.
Heden ten dage is J Balvin erg populair zowel in zijn thuisland als daarbuiten en scoorde laatste 2 jaar enorme hits met "Yo Te Lo Dije" (72 miljoen keer bekeken op youtube), "Tranquila" (157 miljoen), "6 AM" ft. Farruko (186 miljoen) en z`n nieuwste "Ay Vamos" gaat daar overheen met 175 miljoen hits in 4 maanden tijd.
